More than a century of passion

The Marx-Barbier family, 1900From top to bottom, from left to right Victor and Berthe, Jean and Reine Marx

It all started in 1900…

As our ancestors, Victor and Berthe, purchased their first piece of vineyard and a wine press, an avant-garde decision for wine growers at a time when the whole process of champagne making was ruled by Prestigious Houses of Champagne.

From 1943

Their son, Jean, and his wife, Reine, took up the family business. They purchased new vineyards to perpetuate the business and, above all, they began the champagne making process.

In the 1950's, the Jean MARX Champagne set up a vat plant and cellars, and gained its first amateurs…a few thousands of bottles of champagne were primarily offered to friends and family.

In 1962, Michel, the son, became the head of operations; in the vineyards, with works of pruning, ‘palissage’ and so on; in the cellars, with the pressing, wine making, blending and maturing of a growing number of bottles sold under the Marx-Barbier label, after marrying Miss Gisèle Barbier and linking both surnames, as is customary.

In 1992, their two sons, Didier and Jean-Luc, took part to the business and marked a new important step. Their complementarity and know-how still guarantee continuous quality and careful respect at any stage of the champagne making process.

The Marx-Barbier & fils Champagnes are recognized and appreciated for their endearing personality… assertion which you will definitely stick to after tasting them!
